Yemen: Severe Food Shortages in Taiz Amid Ongoing Siege

Taiz, Yemen, is experiencing a severe humanitarian crisis, with essential food supplies, including rice, down by 95% due to a 20-day siege imposed by Houthi forces. The city's food shortage has reached critical levels, with some basic food items running out.
Nor al-Din Mansouri, a member of the Taiz Office for Siege Affairs, warned of dire living conditions and a severe food crisis. The city faces a complete blockade, with no access to necessary supplies. The ongoing military confrontations in Taiz and the western coast have not yet opened a route connecting government-controlled areas to the city.
The Taiz Axis forces control the city and surrounding fronts, as well as parts of rural areas, including villages in Dhabab and Sabr. Government forces are positioned in the Al-Mokha area and the western coast. Despite continuous clashes, no ground connection has been established between the forces on the western coast and those in Taiz.
The siege has led to a deterioration of living conditions and the disruption of essential services. The accumulation of waste in the streets and residential areas poses a significant health and environmental threat. The Houthis' control over routes and sites used for waste disposal has halted waste removal operations, leading to a buildup of waste within the city.
The crisis in Taiz extends beyond food shortages and health services, with the city now facing an environmental catastrophe due to the spread of waste and the inability to transport it to disposal sites.
Residents of Taiz are also facing a shortage of basic and health services, further complicating the humanitarian situation within the besieged city.
