Google Reports Mixed Q3 Results, AI Search Revenue Lags

Google's parent company, Alphabet, reported its third-quarter financial results on Wednesday, revealing a 25% year-over-year revenue increase to nearly $128 billion. However, the company's stock price experienced a significant drop, marking one of its largest post-earnings declines in history. The stock price fell by nearly 12% following the earnings report.
Despite the overall revenue growth, Google's net income for the quarter was $26 billion, which is $9 billion lower than the previous year. The company's earnings per share were $2.12, missing the consensus projection of $3.02. The financial markets reacted negatively to these results, with the stock price falling by 13% earlier in the day.
One of the key factors contributing to the stock price decline is Google's admission that its AI search capabilities are generating less revenue than traditional organic search methods. The company plans to invest even more in AI next year, despite the current underperformance. Google's Cloud products, however, performed well, exceeding expectations with over $30 billion in revenue, about a billion more than analysts had predicted.
Google's financial results for Q3 2026 show a mixed picture. While the company's overall revenue increased significantly, the lower-than-expected earnings and the underperformance of AI search have raised concerns among investors. The company's plan to increase AI investment next year adds to the uncertainty, as it remains to be seen whether these investments will yield the desired results.
