Algerian Football Federation Reviews VAR, Financial Oversight

The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) has conducted a comprehensive review of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system and announced financial oversight for 16 professional clubs. The federation's federal bureau meeting discussed several key areas, including the evaluation of VAR usage, financial management of clubs, and the organization of competitions and technical training programs.
The FAF reviewed the implementation of VAR during the first seven rounds of the professional league, where it was used in 44 out of 50 matches, covering 88% of the games. The federation emphasized continuous training and evaluation of referees, as well as improving the use of assistive technologies. The FAF also called on clubs, players, and technical teams to uphold responsibility and respect for referees and the rules of the game.
In addition, the FAF has scheduled an exam for referees aiming to promote to the inter-regional level on November 1, 2023, for referees from the Bechar and Ouargla regions.
As part of efforts to enhance transparency and improve financial governance, the National Committee for Monitoring the Financial Management of Clubs will conduct bilateral meetings with 16 professional clubs from November 8 to 15, 2023. These meetings will review the financial and accounting situations of the clubs, study their budgets for 2025 and 2026, and examine financial documents to ensure compliance with budgetary and financial commitments. The clubs involved include JS Kabylie, ASO Chlef, USM Alger, MC Alger, CR Belouizdad, USM Blida, MC Oran, ES Sétif, USM El Harrach, NA Hussein Dey, CA Batna, USM Annaba, USM Bel Abbes, JS Saoura, and JS Kabylie.
The FAF aims to prevent potential economic difficulties for the clubs and strengthen the stability of professional football through more rigorous financial oversight.
The FAF has also approved the launch of a new national indoor football championship for the under-20 category. This initiative aims to expand the base of indoor football practitioners, discover young talents, and provide them with more opportunities for development. The project aligns with efforts to build a pool of players capable of reinforcing the national team in the future, especially given the growing interest in indoor football following the Algerian national team's first participation.
