GIC Rating SA, a new credit rating agency, has begun operations in Douala, Cameroon. The agency is dedicated to serving the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC) region.

The launch occurred in early October, following the African Union's recent establishment of its own continental rating agency.

GIC Rating SA's founder expressed hope that the agency will make Central African financial markets more appealing to investors over the medium term.

The agency aims to provide credit ratings for various entities, including banks, corporations, and sovereigns within the CEMAC region. This will help investors assess the creditworthiness of these entities and make informed investment decisions.

GIC Rating SA will also offer training and capacity-building services to enhance the region's financial literacy and promote best practices in credit risk management.

The agency's establishment comes at a time when the CEMAC region is seeking to strengthen its financial sector and attract more investment. The region has been working to improve its economic governance and implement reforms to enhance its business environment.
