European Travel Agents Discover Diverse Tunisia

Thirteen travel agents from various European countries embarked on a discovery tour of Tunisia's diverse tourism landscape, from Cap Bon to the desert, under the slogan “Discover Another Tunisia.”
The agents, part of a 'Fam Trip' organized by the Tunisian government, experienced a range of authentic local activities. They participated in workshops focused on harissa and olive oil, explored artisan crafts, traversed oases, and spent nights in the desert. These immersive experiences aimed to showcase Tunisia's rich cultural heritage and open new avenues for collaboration between European travel agencies and local Tunisian service providers.
The tour included meetings with local artisans and small service providers, offering opportunities to promote Tunisian destinations and support local economies. The agents visited regions beyond the typical beach resorts, highlighting the potential for diversifying Tunisia's tourism industry. The trip was part of the “Tounes Wijhetouna” (Tunisia, Our Destination) program, funded by the European Union. The program aims to support the diversification of Tunisia's tourism offerings, the development of artisan crafts, and the preservation of cultural heritage.
The agents' journey began in Cap Bon, a peninsula known for its lush landscapes and fertile soil. They visited local farms and participated in workshops that highlighted the region's agricultural products, such as olives and citrus fruits. The agents also explored the historic city of Nabeul, renowned for its pottery and ceramics, and interacted with local artisans to understand the traditional crafting techniques.
From Cap Bon, the group ventured to the desert, experiencing the stark contrast of Tunisia's landscapes. They traversed the oases of Tozeur and spent nights under the desert sky, immersing themselves in the unique culture and traditions of the region. The desert leg of the trip included visits to ancient sites, such as the ruins of Dougga, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the historic city of Kairouan, known for its Islamic architecture and religious significance.
The final leg of the journey took the agents to the Dahar region, a mountainous area in southern Tunisia. They explored the region's natural beauty, including the picturesque landscapes of Matmata and the unique architecture of the troglodyte dwellings. The agents also visited local villages, engaging with residents and learning about their way of life. This part of the trip emphasized the importance of community-based tourism and the role it plays in preserving local cultures and traditions.
The 'Fam Trip' provided the travel agents with a comprehensive understanding of Tunisia's diverse tourism offerings. By experiencing the country's rich cultural heritage firsthand, the agents gained insights into the unique experiences Tunisia can offer to tourists. This knowledge will be invaluable in promoting Tunisia as a destination that goes beyond traditional beach holidays, encouraging visitors to explore the country's diverse landscapes, rich history, and vibrant culture.
The European travel agents' visit to Tunisia is part of a broader effort to revitalize the country's tourism industry. The “Tounes Wijhetouna” program, funded by the European Union, aims to support the diversification of Tunisia's tourism offerings, the development of artisan crafts, and the preservation of cultural heritage. By promoting Tunisia as a destination for diverse tourism experiences, the program seeks to attract a wider range of visitors and support the local economy.
