Algerian Minister of Energy Transition and Renewable Energies, Mohamed Arkab, will participate in the 28th Ministerial Meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) in Moscow on Monday. The meeting is chaired by Ekperikpe Ekpo, Nigeria's Minister of State for Petroleum Resources. The forum will discuss global gas market developments and prospects, focusing on short, medium, and long-term trends amidst rapid energy sector changes. The meeting will also address ways to ensure supply security and market stability, balancing the interests of producing and consuming countries while considering energy security and climate change requirements. Reports on global gas market expectations, including the 2026 Annual Gas Market Report and the tenth edition of the Global Gas Outlook 2055, will be presented.

The meeting will also review the implementation of commitments from the 'Algeria Declaration,' which emphasizes fairness, transparency, and the strategic role of natural gas in global energy security. The forum, established in 2001, became an intergovernmental organization in 2008, with its headquarters in Doha, Qatar. It comprises 20 member countries, collectively holding about 70% of proven global natural gas reserves, 38% of global marketed gas production, and 47% of global LNG exports.

The preparatory ministerial meeting for the eighth summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum began on Monday in Moscow, with Algerian Minister of Energy Transition and Renewable Energies, Mohamed Arkab, in attendance. The meeting will discuss a draft joint declaration outlining strategic priorities for international cooperation in the gas sector, global energy market trends, energy security, and long-term sustainable development. The meeting will also address rapid energy sector changes, supply security, and market stability, considering energy security and climate change requirements. The forum will also exchange views on challenges facing the natural gas industry and enhance coordination among producing countries to support common interests and ensure supply stability.
