Algiers, Algeria — Algeria's state-owned energy company, Sonatrach, and the Czech Republic's CEZ are in discussions to extend a natural gas supply contract, which has been in effect since 2024. The talks took place on Monday, during the official visit of the Czech Prime Minister, Andrej Babiš, to Algeria.

The meeting involved high-level executives from both companies, including Sonatrach's CEO, Noureddine Daouadi, and CEZ's Chairman of the Board, Daniel Beneš. The discussions focused on the implementation of the existing gas supply agreement and the potential for its extension, as well as exploring other areas of cooperation.

Sonatrach and CEZ have been partners since 2024, with the Czech company importing natural gas from Algeria. The current agreement is set to expire in 2024, and both parties are considering extending it to ensure a continued supply of natural gas to the Czech Republic.
